An ode to moving to a new place

I felt like given that it is around the time when a lot of my younger audiences are contemplating moving to a new university town and some of you might be in that horrible place between graduating and finding a job. Whether you find yourself moving to a town 10 miles up the road, or to the other side of the globe, relocating somewhere new … Continue reading An ode to moving to a new place

Hello Fresh – Week One

Hello Fresh has become immensely popular of late and for good reason; it provides customers with healthy, easy to follow recipes in more or less the exact quantities required. So when a Hello Fresh sales representative came to my door I decided to give it a whirl and do a review for the first two weeks. (I do have to admit I did keep talking … Continue reading Hello Fresh – Week One

A little homeware update

I supposed this post goes slightly hand in hand with the fact that it was my birthday yesterday. Perhaps I have become a slightly more “adultier” adult? Anyway, as D was already pretty well installed into our home when I moved in, but we’re slowly making updates to little things in the decor (next stop is a new bed for us, whoopee!) Here is a … Continue reading A little homeware update

Rice Krispy Treats (Marshmallow Squares)

There’s something about cobbling a recipe together based on something you’ve been in a cartoon vaguely therapeutic. While throwing together ingredients for this I couldn’t help thinking back to an old episode of the Simpsons. You know the one where Marge is sent to jail and the town riots because they can’t get her rice krispy treats. While I can’t claim I need a statue … Continue reading Rice Krispy Treats (Marshmallow Squares)

Something for the weekend – Food Connections, Bristol

I’ve said before how much I love a good community event and I’ll say it again for the purposes of this post. If you happen to be in or around Bristol between 29 April and 06 May you should check out the Food Connections Festival. Based around College Green, Anchor and Millennium Square; and with events going on all across the city there is something … Continue reading Something for the weekend – Food Connections, Bristol

Lemon curd and poppy seed drizzle cake

This loaf is actually amazing. Its the lightest fluffiest lemony cake ever and is perfect with a cup of tea. I added poppy seeds to the original recipe for this and they cut through the sweetness and add to the texture (plus I had a massive bag that needed using, food waste is not cool!) I have a feeling this recipe will contribute a lot … Continue reading Lemon curd and poppy seed drizzle cake

BBC Spring Good Food Show 2016

Look at these beautiful photos my friend Mrs E took when we went to the BBC Good Food Show last week. I kindly got given free tickets this year and we really made the most of our visit; starting early and taking in a number of interviews and demonstrations in the Supertheatre. I certainly recommend getting at the show earlier; we managed to get round … Continue reading BBC Spring Good Food Show 2016

Sausage, broccoli and courgette risotto

D and I are both pretty busy working full time, writing and doing amdram (he’s just landed a part doing the History Boys!). In fact you could technically say we were a busy family if you count the rabbits demolishing cardboard boxes and hiding behind the sofa. Anyway I’ve started trying to think of some relatively quick and healthy recipes that’ll keep us going all … Continue reading Sausage, broccoli and courgette risotto

Pasta bake with sage and feta meatballs

This is definitely a recipe of procrastination. I saw a picture on instagram of a meatball based pasta bake and resolved to make my own. This is a little faffy and requires a bit of early preparation but them end result looks pretty cool and this is definitely one of those you want to keep in reserve if you have to cook for somebody you’d … Continue reading Pasta bake with sage and feta meatballs

Blueberry yogurt swirl brownies (dairy and gluten free!)

Anyone who is a regular follower of this blog knows I periodically post another variation on brownies. What can I say? I like a good traybake and occasionally get a massive craving for brownies. Anyway, these came about while thinking of cheesecake brownies and wondering if I could make a swirl type brownie without using dairy products. Turns out it works pretty well and I … Continue reading Blueberry yogurt swirl brownies (dairy and gluten free!)
